PUPILS TO ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AT HATCHAM COLLEGE.
Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College is a state secondary school with academy status located in New Cross. Part of the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation Trust, Hatcham College belongs to a family of four secondary and five primary schools in central and south east London – each bringing an Aske’s education to the communities we serve. We work collaboratively and are committed to our Five-Year Strategy to see our schools succeed, ensuring our young people are happy, safe and achieving. We are partnered with two local primary schools (Hatcham Temple Grove and Hatcham Temple Grove Free School) and together we form the Hatcham College cluster and have many children and families joining us at age 3 and leaving us at 18. Curriculum experiences have continuity and integration from ages 11 to 18. All Primary phase children have an automatic right of entry to the Secondary phase so transition is seamless between Years 6 and 7 as well as progression through the other key stages.
Hatcham College has a long and proud history dating back to the late 1800s. Originally the school’s two sites on Pepys Road and Jerningham were used as separate boys’ and girls’ schools. Today, we offer a mixed learning approach in lessons and across other aspects of school life. Jerningham Road site is home to years 7–9 whilst our Pepys Road site is a base for years 9–11as well as our sixth form students.
With excellent sports facilities in the area too, we are proud to offer three sites with well-equipped spaces where we have been able to host a number of events over the years including Speech Day, Prize Giving, Deputation Day, Musical Concerts and much more. We are proud to support our local community as we prepare children for life within school and beyond.
We are a truly diverse school of over 1300 students that celebrates a wide range of backgrounds, heritages, religions, languages, ethnic groups and social-economic circumstances. The majority of our students live in the Borough of Lewisham and for the past decade Hatcham College has been oversubscribed by 12:1.
Hatcham College specialises in music and offers music places each year for those who have a real aptitude and passion for music. Our quality of education intends to cover the expected core subjects of English Language, Literature and Mathematics as well as Ebbac subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Computer Science and Modern Foreign Languages including German, French, Spanish and Latin.
Well over three quarters of the students in the Sixth Form move onto higher education. Last academic year, 3 students gained places at Cambridge University and four students went on to become medicine undergraduates.
Our primary benefactor, the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers’ brings great benefits to our students. The Haberdashers’ Advantage continues to provide our young people with wonderful opportunities to develop their teamwork, networking, interpersonal, interpersonal and leadership skills. A number of our students have attended career workshops, dragons den style competitions, networking dinners, master classes and more. The Company offers approximately 15 scholarships to our students after they leave the College supporting Askean dreams and ambitions.
