Historian David Laugh to visit Library
Author/historian David Lough is visiting the Pepys Site Library on Tuesday 26th November to encourage more students to consider careers in literature. The purpose of the event is to encourage more students to consider careers in literature with the catalyst for this being an inspirational encounter with the author David Lough. David has had an incredibly interesting career and his most recent book was ‘Darling Winston: Forty Years of Correspondence Between Churchill and His Mother’. Darling Winston is an edited collection of the personal letters between Winston Churchill and his mother, Jenny Jerome, between 1881, when Churchill was just six, and 1921, the year of Jenny's death. Many of these intimate letters between two gifted writers are published here for the first time, and the exchange of letters between mother and son has never before been published as a correspondence.
To co-incide with his visit, we are inviting students to write a letter from a historical figure to a member of their family, with a prize for the most revealing missive.
