'I love the written word, I love the way words make me feel' one of the writers shared... we know how she feels....
The shortlisted authors are on a whirlwind tour of the UK in the run up to the announcement of the winner of the 2019 Caine Prize for African literature this week, and so we were delighted they found time to drop in and visit Askes on Thursday.
Lesley Nneka Arimah from Nigeria, Meron Hadero from Ethiopia, Cherrie Kandie from Kenya, Ngwah-Mbo Nana Nkweti from Cameroon, and Tochukwu Emmanuel Okafor from Nigeriae were amazing, charming, generous and inspiring, treating the audience of year 9s 10s and some 6th formers to an insight into the life of a professional writer, with tips on how to write, and sharing their journey from reader to writer.
Their enthusiasm was infectious and delighted us all. The winner of this year's prize will be announced this week.
