Hatcham College Celebrates Strongest Core Subject Results Since GCSE Reforms

Students and staff at Hatcham College are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results, with significant improvements across core subjects and outstanding performances in a range of disciplines.

The proportion of pupils achieving a pass (grade 4 or above) in both English and Maths rose by 5% to 72%, while the percentage securing a strong pass (grade 5 or above) increased by 3% to 57%. In both English and Maths individually, 80% of pupils achieved at least a grade 4, making these the strongest results in the subjects since GCSE grading reforms were introduced.

The sciences delivered particularly impressive outcomes. Biology, Chemistry and Physics all achieved 100% pass rates at grade 5 or above. The proportion of pupils achieving the highest grades (7 and above) increased significantly, reaching 84% in Biology, 78% in Chemistry and 78% in Physics.

Strong improvements were also seen across a range of other subjects. In Sociology, the percentage of pupils achieving grade 5 or above increased by 11% to 73%, while Religious Studies saw grade 7 and above results rise by 15% to 39%.

Further Mathematics continued its excellent performance, with 100% of pupils achieving grade 5 or above and 85% securing grade 7 or higher. Geography recorded a 12% increase in grade 7 and above results to 34%, while Photography saw 56% of pupils achieve grade 7 or above, an increase of 11%.

Alongside these impressive subject outcomes, many students achieved exceptional individual results, reflecting years of hard work, determination and commitment.

• Ewan also achieved grade 9 across all 11 subjects including Chemistry, History, English and Music 
• Theo secured 4 grade 9s, 6 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s
• Raphael achieved 7 grade 9s, 1 grade 8, 2 grade 7s and 2 grade 6s
• Yu Chen achieved 4 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s and 4 grade 7s
• Sasha secured 7 grade 9s and 3 grade 8s

Hatcham College staff are very proud of the pupils who worked hard to achieve their success. The improvements in results are a reflection of the support that staff have provided throughout their secondary journey. In addition to the improvements seen at cohort and department level, we are particularly proud of the pupils who achieved in the face of great personal adversity, who for obvious reasons, are not named.

This year's results continue Hatcham College's tradition of academic excellence and provide a strong foundation for students as they move on to sixth form, further education, apprenticeships and future careers.
