Meet edison, an aspiring art student. He explains why Hatcham College is unique and offers advice about sixth form
What are you currently studying and what do you want to do after Sixth Form?
I am studying Art, Photography and English Literature. I love that I get to explore new things and learn more about what fascinates me. After A-levels, I am hoping to gain some work experience before going to do a design or art course at University.
What’s been the most challenging thing about doing A-levels so far?
Managing my own time has been a challenge, but the teachers are always there to help no matter the situation. For example, during my art lessons, they would give any advice I might need to improve the work I am doing to help me bring out the best I can do. If I am ever misunderstanding how to start on a project or have no idea which direction to go, they would always help guide me by giving me and idea of what to do and how I can progress myself and the work to provide me with a better education and furthermore a better grade worthy of my capability.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining your Sixth Form?
My advice would be to not stress- have fun! You will make friends instantly and the education provided is the highest standard you can possibly get. Furthermore, plan ahead of things. Keep everything under control whether it being homework or revision or anything that you might come across, just plan ahead so you won’t be constantly struggling on things. It has helped me with workloads and fixing my daily routine by having a schedule by my side. Overall, enjoy it whilst you can! The two years being in sixth form will go by quicker than you think, I will promise you will leave sixth form with memories to last! I know I have and I am still making new ones everyday.
What is unique about Hatcham Sixth Form?
The reading room is pretty unique- I go to the reading room when I have work to do. It is a room that is completely silent where I can focus without any distractions. The art department is also a unique part of Hatcham Sixth Form, and I have particularly enjoyed spending time in the art block. The art teachers are always supportive, offering advice and giving feedback. The level of teaching at Hatcham is fantastic.
