Meet Lucy

I am very proud of all the opportunities that I have been given, particularly the careers advice and the local Oxbridge program, Lewisham University Challenge.

Lucy talks about benefiting from the Haberdashers' advantage, her passion for music and the support from her teachers.

What do you enjoy most about your A-level subjects?

I am studying English Literature, Music and History. The most enjoyable thing about my subjects are the interesting topics that we learn about. I would like to go to university to study English Literature or to music college.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests

I really enjoy music. I play the piano and the cello, sing and like to write music. I perform with my friends and even go busking with my sister! I also enjoy reading books and poetry.

Why did you choose to stay at Hatcham Sixth Form?

I developed good relationships with lots of students and teachers at Hatcham during secondary school. I already knew that the departments of the subjects that I wanted to choose were all very good. The History and Music departments are particularly brilliant. The teachers are enthusiastic and they make students really engage with the subject and have inspired many students to carry on with these subject in the future.

What makes you proud of Hatcham Sixth Form?

I am very proud of all the opportunities that I have been given, particularly the careers advice and the local Oxbridge program, Lewisham University Challenge.

What have you most enjoyed about being part of a Haberdashers' Sixth Form?

I have really enjoyed taking part in the Haberdashers schemes and awards. I took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award at bronze and silver. By doing the DofE, I was encouraged to try new things and I discovered that I had a real passion for rock climbing! I volunteered at a refugee centre where I tutored children and teenagers. It was a pretty incredible opportunity! I also met and made new friends on the expedition and the scenery was beautiful. Also, I have been involved in the annual Federation Christmas Carol Service since Year 7. It is a fantastic opportunity for the schools in the Federation to come together – I always enjoy it!

What has been a highlight of your time at Hatcham Sixth Form?

A particular highlight was the Black History Month event. Students played music by various black artists and it was professionally filmed which was amazing!

Do you have any advice for someone joining Hatcham Sixth Form?

Work hard! The step from GCSEs to A-Levels is challenging, so pick subjects that you have an interest in and build relationships with the teachers because the teachers here are amazing. You won’t find better teachers anywhere else. The independent work has taken time to get used to, but the teachers are great.
